Academic Research
In the fall of 2021, I conducted a study on how polyamorous relationships develop and escalate. In spring of 2022, I presented my research at the Northwest Communication Association Conference in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and it was nominated for best student paper.
This paper doesn’t just demonstrate my mastery of APA style, it demonstrates a deep understanding of how academic research is conducted, which is essential to any journalist tasked with reading, interpreting, and accurately reporting on research that affects the public.
In researching and writing about marginalized communities, I aim not only to support diversity, inclusivity, and social justice, but to create understanding and generate empathy, both of which are essential to the civilized discourse and mutually beneficial collaboration necessary for a functioning democracy.
